Many people, though visiting the Caribbean for its beautiful beaches and friendly people, tend to fall in love with the Caribbean Cuisine.  Zesty, Flavorful, Spicy, Savory , a host of different flavors and combination of flavors can be had within the Caribbean and what better way to sample the Caribbean Cuisine than with the National Dishes of several Caribbean countries.  Here are 5 Caribbean National Dishes that you should try.


Ackee and Salt Fish , Jamaica

Ackee and Salt-fish is the national dish of Jamaica, a delightful dish that can be had with breadfruit, hard dough bread, dumplings, fried plantains green bananas or rice and peas. Be careful though as the fruit,Ackee, can be toxic, they must be ripe before harvesting.


Oil Down , Grenada

Oil down, the national dish of Grenada is truly a dish packed with a variety of ingredients. from salted meat and chicken to dumplings and calaloo all simmered down on a coal pot to get that rich flavor. This dish is a heavy meal that is TASTY!!


Pepper Pot, Guyana

Pepper-pot is an Amerindian-derived dish popular in Guyana, it is a stewed meat dish, strongly flavored with cinnamon, cassareep (a special sauce made from the cassava root) and other basic ingredients, including Caribbean hot peppers. A special dish pepper pot will leave you begging for more.


Cou Cou and Flying Fish, Barbados

Cou cou and flying fish is a recipe made with corn meal, okra, flying fish and topped with an aromatic sauce of tomato, onion, chives, thyme, fresh pepper, garlic and other herbs. The fish can be steamed, battered & fried or grilled.

Crab and Calaloo, Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago has a variety of popular meals, but crab and callaloo is their respective national dish. Dasheen leaves are prepared in a unique fashion, similar to a dark leafy stew/gravy type of consistency. The leafy stew is served with crab and tends to be eaten as Sunday lunch.
