Jamaica is easily one of the most recognizable and iconic islands in the Caribbean, so much so that in a lot of our travels, people seem to think that the Caribbean is Jamaica, and we don’t blame them. Jamaica is definitely more on the social scene than many of the other Caribbean islands and Jamaica is pretty much the face of the Caribbean. But why visit Jamaica ? Here’s 10 reasons.
Seven Mile Beach, Negril
As you may have guessed, seven miles is a lot of space and you would be able to find a spot just for you. Seven miles of golden sand and calm Caribbean sea sounds perfect for a relaxing day to me, and after the sun sets it turns into a fun nightlife spot where you can grab a drink or party.
Jumping off at Rick’s Cafe
World renown and famous tourist spot, Rick’s Cafe, is definitely a place to go and one of the cooler locations to spend an evening on the island. One of their attractions is the high dive, diving into the turquoise blue sea from 35 feet above. You will also be able to see some skilled locals taking risky and daring dives from the tops of trees on the cliff. It’s definitely a site to see.
Dunns River Falls and Park
One of the most popular tourist attractions in Jamaica. At 660 ft, this waterfall, or collection of waterfalls and plunge pools flow down smooth rocks and lead directly into the ocean. Stunning!!
Blue Mountains National Park
The Blue Mountains form the longest mountain range along the eastern edge of Jamaica and features majestic scenery. Many hike or bike through the mountains to witness first hand nature at its finest.
The peak of the range rises to an altitude of 7,402 feet, so its definitely a hike for the more experienced hikers, but the sites that the Blue Mountains give are all worth the effort.
Rafting on the Martha Brae River
Always wanted to go on a Gondola in Venice? Well, let’s go rafting on The Martha Brae River in Jamaica. It is one of the most relaxing things ever, and perfect for you and your significant other.
Jamaica Bobsledding
Cool Runnings! Mystic Mountain is one of the top attractions in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. There is so much available to do, from the cable car over the canopy to zip lining to the bobsledding roller coaster. Its a perfect spot to spend a day filled with activities.
The bobsledding is a unique experience, it’s an approximate 90 second ride twisting through the mountains. The view on the way up to the bobsled is jaw dropping and the ride back down on the bobsled is exhilarating.
Blue Lagoon
Blue Lagoon is a popular travel destination for families and honeymooners. The turquoise blue water just seems to glisten, even appearing to change colors throughout the day, depending on the way the sun shines on the surface. It’s a lovely spot to just forget about the worries of the world and marvel at the beauty of it.
Blue Hole
Similar to the Blue Lagoon, The Blue Hole is stunning. Hidden away, it’s not as popular a destination as Blue Lagoon so it provides the solace we all so very need, and the light blue water is enticing, pulling you in to take a splash.
Green Grotto Caves
The Green Grotto Caves is a site to see. The walls are covered with a form of algae which gives the cave a greenish tone. The innermost cavern contains a crystal-clear underground lake. If you love Spelunking/Caving, Green Grotto Cave should be on your list of places to visit in Jamaica.
Bob Marley Museum
As stated before, Jamaica is one of the more Iconic islands of the Caribbean, so many times when you mention the Caribbean to foreigners they immediately think of beaches but next up on their list is Reggae. The most prominent of Reggae artists is Bob Marley himself.
The Bob Marley Museum is the former residence and studio of that legendary reggae singer. The Museum is located in the capital city of Kingston and this was Marley’s home until his death in 1981. It was also home to Tuff Gong record label founded by The Wailers back in the 1970s. Today, the house is a famous tourist attraction and museum.
